Battle of the Catalaunian Plains (451)
November 2020
A depiction of one of the most iconic battles of Late Antiquity, the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains (451 AD)—and the first battle scene I ever created. This illustration portrays the clash between a Romano-Visigothic coalition—led by Flavius Aetius and King Theodoric I, alongside Alans, Franks, Burgundians, and other federates—and the forces of Attila the Hun, including Huns, Ostrogoths, Gepids, and allied subject tribes.
The battle marked a turning point in Attila’s expansion into Gaul, halting his advance into Western Europe, though at immense cost and without a decisive strategic victory for either side.
